This Privacy Policy explains how the "Ask AI — Gemini Web Assistant" browser extension ("Extension", "we", "us") collects, uses, and safeguards user information.
We are committed to user privacy and practice data minimization: we only process information that is strictly required to deliver the core AI assistant features.
1. Information We Process
1. Webpage Content and Selected Text:
- When you explicitly interact with the Extension (e.g., clicking "Summarize", generating questions, or submitting a prompt), the relevant page text or your selected passage is sent to our AI Gateway solely to produce the requested summary or response.
- Webpage content is never used for advertising profiling or marketing purposes.
2. Device Identifier & Account Authentication:
- An anonymous, randomly generated Device UUID is used to track daily request quotas (e.g., 50 requests/day).
- If you voluntarily register via Email, your email address is used solely for account authorization, quota management, and delivering one-time verification codes (OTP).
3. Local Storage:
- Your preferences (target language, model choice, temperature) and local conversation history are stored strictly on your local machine using Chrome's
chrome.storage.local API.
4. Technical Telemetry:
- In the event of network or gateway failures, anonymous operational metadata (HTTP status code, model name, extension version) may be sent to diagnose issues. Your chat conversations, prompts, and page URLs are never included in error telemetry.
2. Chrome Permissions Justification
sidePanel: Allows rendering the assistant interface in Chrome's side panel alongside your active web page.tabs: Used to determine the active tab's title and domain for context.scripting: Extracts webpage text only when requested by the user.storage: Preserves user settings locally on the machine.identity / identity.email: Auto-populates the Chrome profile email address during voluntary registration for user convenience.
3. Data Sharing & Third Parties
- We do NOT sell, trade, or rent user data to third parties.
- User data is NOT used for advertising, lending evaluations, or creditworthiness.
- Content is processed via secure AI model APIs strictly to fulfill user-initiated requests.
4. Data Retention & Deletion
- You can clear your local chat history and saved analyses at any time directly through the Extension interface.
- You can uninstall the Extension at any moment to immediately remove all locally stored data.
